My name is Derek Shirley. A lot of people call me Shirley. I'm just a guy from Pittsburgh, Pa that ended up in Gray, Maine in the middle of the green rush of the east coast! In my journey, I've interviewed people that work in the cannabis industry and patients! I am a proud felon for 4 ounces of cannabis in 2012 in my home state! After probation, I fled my homes state to access cannabis on a medical level. Ended up in Flagstaff, Arizona in a highly regulated market with limited dispos. After my stint in Arizona, I wanted to exchange my mountain views to coastal! West Coast was out played for me so I looked back East! No smoking in the South so it was kind of a no brainer. I had ZERO idea what my life was in store for me, but boy has it been a ride in Maine! I sat on Maine Cannabis Coalition  for roughly 4 years where we wrote bills and passed bills in committee and later in our  Senate to become law. We also blocked bills when necessary. After separating the M.C.C, due to their lack of dedication to the medical program and focusing on adult use, I decided to become a borderline sarcastic "lobbyist" myself to help preserve Maine's Medical program as much as humanly possible and help people in small groups or individual basis. I've represented patients and caregivers all around the country. I am a writer for Beard Bros Media based out in Los Angeles, Ca focusing on Maine Cannabis scene and cannabis politics on the local, state and federal levels.
